Veho USB ScannerThis USB film scanner from Veho is fairly reasonably and compact and is capable of scanning at the equivalent of 5MP (megapixels) in quality.

The scanner is easy to use and plugs straight in via USB to your computer, once the bundled software and drivers are installed the device is ready to use.

Included with the Veho are two holders for negatives and slides, along with the bundled software ArcSoft PhotoImpression which will help you edit and adjust any negatives uploaded via the scanner to your computer. Files can be saved in either JPG or TIF formats where you can then.

Once uploaded you can edit photos and create slideshows through the ArcSoft software, which also has the ability to touch up the images and add effects to them.

If your handy with Photoshop then we would recommend touching the photos up a little to get the most out of this piece of kit as the colours can look a little washed out, however the overall effect is surprisingly good given the cost involved.

Veho software

Veho also provides you with a soft cotton swab for cleaning the negatives prior to using the scanner, perfect to remove any dust and dirt that may have accumuated on the film or slide over time.  Whilst the scanner does to a good job don’t expect instant results straight away as you will need to take some care when scanning to make sure you capture the image correctly.

Overall for an easy solution to capturing your images from negative into digital format and for the price the Veho is certainly worth considering as long as you don’t mind taking a little time get the required results.  If you are happy getting a reasonble finish and output from a negative scanner and are less of a perfectionist then the Veho will be perfect for the job with minimal fuss.

    Dear Admin,

As I understood, to scan my negative images I would have to cut my 35mm films in 4-6 frames peices. Are there any portable negative scanners like Veho that allow to scan a negative film without cutting it? I know that Nikon Coolscan 5000ED has an adapter for this purpose, but it is too expensive for me.

    Thank you,

The Veho will handle standard 35mm negative film strips without the need to cut them into pieces. It comes with a negative holder where you place the film strip into place.

    Try the Veho website:

You will be able to download the necessary drivers for it to work on another computer.

Can anyone give me an answer please, or at least say they are suffering from the same symptoms? I have a VEHO-004 deluxe neg and slide scasner. The colour neg scanning is hopeless. It comes out very yellow and working on the colour balance does not help enough. The colour slides, some of them over 50 years old, are slightly blue, but adjustable

The original slightly blue colour of the slides will result in them scanning yellow when converted.

The yellow layer (blue channel) in negative color films tends to suffer the greatest expansion, and therefore is the most prone to posterization.

If you have photoshop try this:

Other than that I would suggest trying Vuescan or Silverfast software as they tend to have much more in the way of tools to adjust colour balance.
